2023-24 Premier League: Week 17 – Burnley vs Everton

Burnley host Everton at Turf Moor in a huge Premier League clash in the battle for survival.

Victory would see Burnley go 18th and to within one point of safety if Luton lose at Bournemouth, whilst Everton can go 15th if Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest both lose elsewhere.

Charlie Taylor is suspended for Burnley after he picked up his fifth booking of the season in their 1-1 draw at Brighton.

Josh Cullen (knock) could feature but Aaron Ramsey (knee) is ruled out.

Luca Koleosho (knee), Jack Cork (calf) and Lyle Foster (illness) remain absent.

Everton will be without Jarrad Branthwaite and Idrissa Gueye who are both suspended, after they picked up their fifth bookings of the campaign in the Toffees’ win over Chelsea.

Seamus Coleman (fitness), Ashley Young and Michael Keane (both knock) are doubts but Andre Gomes (calf) and Dele Alli (hip) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Burnley host Everton in a 5:30pm GMT kick-off on Saturday 16 December at Turf Moor, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Prediction

Sat five points behind Everton coming into this game, Burnley know that this is surely a must-win because they have been putting together some decent attacking performances lately, amidst some wasted chances at times.

Their defence however has been their Achilles heel too often as proved the case in their draw at Brighton, although they did produce a decent defensive effort until one mistake allowed the Seagulls to snatch a point.

Everton though have got their act together with one defeat in their last eight – including a home win over Burnley in the Carabao Cup, but didn’t exactly have it their own way against Chelsea with a mixture of great goalkeeping and clinical finishing key to their win.

Branthwaite and Gueye though are huge losses for this game from a defensive perspective for Everton but if they play with the same quality as seen against Chelsea, I can’t see Burnley having enough defensive ability to deny them a win but it should be a competitive battle.

Prediction: Burnley 1-2 Everton

Result: Burnley 0-2 Everton
