UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying: Group D – Wales vs Turkey

Wales host Turkey in a must-win Group D fixture at Cardiff City Stadium, with UEFA Euro 2024 qualification at stake.

Wales must win and hope that Croatia fail to beat Armenia if want to snatch second and the final automatic qualification spot for the tournament.

Turkey meanwhile need at least a draw in order to secure top spot in the group, having already guranteed their spot at UEFA Euro 2024.

Wales have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 1-1 draw away to Armenia, with Brennan Johnson looking to start here after having been used as a substitute in Yerevan.

Chris Mepham though is suspended for this match after he picked up his third yellow card of the campaign last weekend.

Turkey will be without Hakan Calhanoglu and Cengiz Under after the pair withdrew prior to their friendly win over Germany.

When is Kick-Off?

Wales host Turkey at Cardiff City Stadium in a 7:45pm GMT kick-off on Tuesday 21 November, live on Viaplay Sports 1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Wales have won one of three previous UEFA Euro qualifiers against Turkey (W1, L2).
  • Turkey lost their only previous away UEFA Euro qualifier against Wales by 1-0 result in November 1978.
  • Wales are yet to concede at home to Turkey in all competitions (W2, D1).
  • Three of Wales’ five goals at home in this Qualifying Group were scored by Harry Wilson
  • All six of Turkey’s away goals in this Qualifying Group were scored by six different players.

Prediction

After finding themselves held to a difficult draw in Armenia, Wales certainly need a huge double slice of luck in one go now if want to qualify for the Euros but they must first deliver a disciplined defensive display and more composed clinical finishing against tough opposition.

Turkey meanwhile are already qualified but need a point to top the group and after beating Germany in a friendly, I just can’t see them rolling over here but they’re yet to score on Welsh soil so beating that Achilles heel will be their main stumbling block to overcome first.

Wales though will certainly be roared on by a thunderous crowd which might just be the difference if the hosts can show better end product even if they don’t achieve qualification, but this will certainly be a close contest.

Prediction: Wales 1-0 Turkey

Result: Wales 1-1 Turkey
