Rotherham’s inconsistency continued last weekend with a disappointing defeat at rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday, so it is imperative that they bounce back here against another bottom-three club with tidier defending and a clinical attack if want to avoid getting cut adrift of safety early.
QPR meanwhile should be up for this match following Gareth Ainsworth’s departure and the appointment of Marti Cifuentes, but his first task has to be to shore up their leaky defence because they are capable in midfield and attack but just have been poor at the back with too many conceded goals.
Cifuentes’ previous teams have tended to play a possession-based game with strong pressing and solid positioning to convert defending into attacks, so it will be interesting to see how quickly QPR adapt given their attacking quality amidst sloppy defending lately.
Rotherham therefore might look to counter-attack if can soak up QPR’s attacking press and quickly turn interceptions into attack, but a score draw might look the best outcome here given that neither team can afford to lose.
