2023-24 UEFA Europa League: Group Stage – Matchweek Two Roundup

Roundup of the second matchweek of group stage action in 2023-24 UEFA Europa League. 

West Ham made English history with a 17th consecutive win in all European competitions, whilst Brighton and Liverpool ensured a positive evening for English clubs in the competition.

Rangers meanwhile hit trouble as their group was blown wide open in their first game since Michael Beale’s sacking.

Now, here is a roundup of all the action across every group in the second matchweek of the group stage of 2023-24 UEFA Europa League


Group A

Nayef Aguerd headed in a 66th minute winner for Group A leaders, West Ham in a 2-1 away win at SC Freiburg, after Lucas Paqueta’s opening goal was cancelled out by Roland Sallai.

Ifet Dakovac and Milos Pantovic struck for TSC in a comeback 2-2 draw at home to Olympicaos, who had led through goals from Georgios Masouras and Daniel Podence.


Group B

AEK Athens stayed top of Group B with a 1-1 draw at home to Ajax after Domagoj Vida cancelled out Steven Bergwijn’s 30th minute penalty.

Second-half goals from Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro saw Brighton fight back to draw 2-2 at Marseille, who had taken a first-half lead through quick-fire goals from Chancel Mbemba and Jordan Veretout.


Group C

Goals from Alex Moucketou-Moussounda and Shavy Babicka saw Aris Limassol top Group C with a 2-1 win over Rangers.

Assane Diao and Isco netted in a comeback 2-1 home win for Real Betis over Sparta Prague, who had taken a third minute lead through Veljko Birmancevic.


Group D

Atalanta stayed top in Group D with a 2-1 away win at Sporting Lisbon as Giorgio Scalvini and Matteo Ruggeri struck in the first half for the Italian club, despite Viktor Gyokeres netting a consolatory penalty for the hosts in the 76th minute.

William Bøving netted a 23rd minute winner for Sturm Graz away at Rakow Czestochowa.


Group E

Ryan Gravenberch’s 44th minute strike fired Group E leaders, Liverpool towards an eventual 2-0 home win over Union Saint-Gilloise, which was confirmed by Diogo Jota’s injury-time goal.

Toulouse remain second after Gabriel Suazo struck a 31st minute winner to beat LASK at home.


Group F

Panathinaikos stay top of Group F despite having been held to a goalless draw away to MaccabI Haifa.

Alexander Sørloth’s 36th minute effort proved enough for Villarreal to beat Rennes and move above their French visitors to go second in the group.


Group G

Mojmir Chytil’s brace ensured that Slavia Prague stayed top of Group G following a 6-0 home triumph over Sheriff Tirasapol.

Andrea Belotti struck twice as Roma hammered Servette 4-0 at Stadio Olimpico, with Romelu Lukaku and Lorenzo Pellegrini also on the scoresheet.


Group H

First half goals from Jeremie Frimpong and Nathan Tella ensured that Bayer Leverkusen remained top of Group H with a 2-1 win over Molde.

Olavio Juninho netted a 70th minute winner as Qarabag scraped past BK Hacken to stay second.
