2023-24 UEFA Europa Conference League: Group Stage – Matchweek One Roundup

Roundup of the opening matchweek of the Group Stage in 2023-24 UEFA Europa Conference League.

Aston Villa and Aberdeen looked to make winning starts to their Europa Conference League campaigns, whilst last season’s runner-up, Fiorentina aimed to enjoy a strong start as they attempt to go one step further.

Now, here is a full roundup of all eight groups on the opening matchweek of the Group Stage.

 

Group A

Goals from Jonathan David and Yusuf Yazici saw Lille beat Olimpija Ljubljana 2-0 to go top of the group.

Comeback goals from Vladimir Weiss and Aleksandar Cavric saw Slovan Bratislava come from behind to beat Ki 2-1 in Bratislava.

 

Group B

First half goals from Yvann Macon, Eran Zahavi and Dan Biton saw Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Brieðablik 3-2 at home, despite Klæmint Olsen’s brace for the Icelandic visitors.

Eduardo Guerrero rescued Zorya Luhansk a 1-1 draw at home to Gent with a 70th minute equaliser, just three minutes after Hugo Cuypers had put the Belgian team ahead.

 

Group C

Bruno Petkovic’s brace of penalties saw Dinamo Zagreb thrash Astana 5-1 in Zagreb, with Marko Bulat, Antonio Marin and Tibor Halilovic on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Lukas Kalvach netted a 73rd minute winner as Viktoria Plzen snatched a home win over Ballkani.

 

Group D

Ex Everton striker, Cenk Tosun rescued Besiktas a 1-1 draw at Club Brugge with a 88th minute equaliser, after Hans Vanaken had put the hosts in front 11 minutes earlier.

Lugano held Bodø/Glimt to a goalless draw in Zurich.

 

Group E

Zvonimir Kozulj’s brace fired Zrinjski Mostar to a dramatic comeback 4-3 home win over AZ Alkmaar from 3-0 down to top Group E, with Josip Corluka and Aldin Hrvanovic also netting for the hosts.

Ernest Muci’s brace saw Legia Warsaw defeat Aston Villa 3-2 after twice being pegged back by Unai Emery’s Villains, having taken the lead through Pawel Wszolek’s third minute opening goal.

 

Group F

Comeback goals from Barnbas Varga, Owusu and Aleksandar Pesic saw Ferencvaros fight back from behind to beat Cukaricki, after Dorde Ivanovic had put the Serbian team in front.

Mark McKenzie’s 85th minute equaliser saw Genk rescue a 2-2 draw at home to Fiorentina, having intially led through Andi Zeqiri before Luca Ranieri’s brace put the Italian club ahead.

 

Group G

Konstantinos Koulierakis, Kiril Dspodov and Brandon Thomas all scored in a second half comeback as PAOK won 3-2 away to HJK, after Hassane Bande had put the Finnish team ahead at half-time whilst Bojan Radulovic struck a 99th minute penalty in a thriller.

Robin Koch’s 61st minute header saw Eintracht Frankfurt scrape past Aberdeen 2-1 at home, after Omar Marmoush’s 11th minute penalty had been cancelled out by the Dons’ Dante Polvara.

 

Group H

Jakub Piotrowski’s brace fired Ludogorets Razgrad top of Group H in a 4-0 home win over Spartak Trnava, with Ivan Yordanov and Rwan Cruz also on the scoresheet.

Miguel Crespo, Michy Batshuayi and Serdar Aziz all netted as Fenerbahce beat Nordsjaelland 3-1 in Istanbul.
