Rachel Daly has headed a multitude of England players nominated in various categories at 2023 Ballon d’Or.
Last season’s WSL top scorer, Rachel Daly heads a group of four players from Sarina Wiegman’s England Lionesses squad who made the longlist, alongside; Millie Bright, Georgia Stanway and Mary Earps- who claimed the Golden Glove at this summer’s Women’s World Cup.
The quartet however face tough competition from the World Cup’s Golden Boot winner, Hinata Miyazawa plus various Spanish stars including; Aitana Bonmati, Alba Redondo, Salma Paralluelo and Olga Carmona – who won Spain their first Women’s World Cup title in the Final against England.
Across in the men’s Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane are England’s representatives in the men’s longlist, although face tricky competition from Erling Halaand, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi amongst others.
Bellingham is also nominated for the Kopa Trophy which celebrates the best players aged 21 or under, although the England midfielder faces difficult competition from fellow Ballon d’Or nominee – Jamal Musiala plus Gavi, Pedri and Eduardo Camavinga amongst others.
Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund is also nominated following his goalscoring exploits for Atalanta last season.
England’s Aaron Ramsdale is one of four Premier League goalkeepers nominated for the Yashin Trophy alongside, Ederson, Emiliano Martinez and Manchester United’s summer signing – Andre Onana.
Martinez and Onana are also up for the main Ballon d’Or alongside Morocco’s Yassine Bounou.
The winners will be announced on Monday 30 October in a special ceremony.
