2023-24 Sky Bet Championship: Week Four – Saturday

Rotherham United welcome Leicester City to the New York Stadium in a huge Championship clash.

Victory would lift Rotherham out of the relegation zone, whilst Leicester can go top if they can better Ipswich’s result elsewhere.

Hakeem Odoffin is ruled out for Rotherham after he suffered a hamstring injury in their away defeat at Sunderland last weekend.

Fred Onyedinma is available after completing his one-match ban but Grant Hall (hamstring), Jamie Lindsay (Achilles), Shane Ferguson (hernia) and Georgie Kelly (knee) remain sidelined.

Leicester could be without midfielder, Dennis Praet after he missed their win over Cardiff with a muscle injury,

Kasey McAteer (foot) is unlikely to be risked but Alex Smithies (unspecified) and Conor Coady (foot) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Rotherham host Leicester at New York Stadium in a 3pm BST kick-off on Saturday 26 August, untelevised in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Rotherham have won just one of their last seven league meetings against Leicester (W1, D1, L5).
  • Leicester are unbeaten in their last five league visits to Rotherham (W2, D3).
  • Both teams have scored in six of their last seven meetings in Rotherham.
  • Cafu has been booked in two of his three league appearances for Rotherham this season.
  • Stephy Mavididi has been booked in each of his last two league appearances for Leicester.

Prediction

Although losing at Sunderland from one goal up was disappointing, Rotherham can take heart from how positive their attacking play was until Odoffin got injured but their defensive focus slipped twice, which ultimately proved the difference with Jobe Bellingham in particular proving a handful.

Leicester meanwhile continue to grow under Enzo Maresca but they were made to work hard for their win over Cardiff, with their end product proving the difference despite conceding from a long-range goal in another positive display.

Onyedinma’s return therefore is welcome for Rotherham because without Odoffin, I do feel like they will lack something creatively in attack, which will suit Leicester who should be too strong for the hosts such is the contrast in quality.

Prediction: Rotherham 0-2 Leicester

Result: Rotherham 1-2 Leicester
