Burnley have signed midfielder, Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

Ramsey’s move comes after he made just one senior appearance for Villa, which came in a 6-0 Carabao Cup victory away to Barrow in August 2021 before he spent the second half of that season at Cheltenham Town in which he scored one goal in 14 appearances.

Villa last season opted to send Ramsey on loan to Norwich where he managed three goals in 20 appearances, only to recall him in mid-season to loan him out to Middlesbrough – where he scored five goals and created one assist as Boro reached the Championship Play-Offs semi-finals.

His performances however caught Burnley’s eye and the club had an undisclosed offer accepted, with Ramsey signing a five-year contract at Turf Moor until June 2023.

Speaking about his decision to move to Burnley after spending over a decade with Villa, Ramsey commented: “I’m absolutely buzzing. I have been waiting to be a Burnley player for a while now and I’m really happy it’s all officially done now. I can’t wait to get started.

“I can’t wipe my smile off my face. When you come to a new club you want the lads to welcome you in and everyone here has done that straight away. It’s been really easy to settle, everyone has been amazing.”

Upon confirmation of his move, Ramsey paid tribute on X to his ‘boyhood club’ and thanked the staff for their support for giving him ‘opportunities’ to develop and rise up the footballing ladder.

The 20 year-old could make his debut for Burnley at home on Sunday 27 August, coincidentally against his now former team, Villa, in a 2pm BST kick-off.
