Chelsea have signed defender, Axel Disasi from AS Monaco in a £38.8m transfer deal.

Disasi’s move to Stamford Bridge comes after three seasons at Monaco, where he scored 10 goals in 129 appearances across all competitions – including four goals in 49 appearances last season as the Ligue 1 club battled to a sixth-placed domestic finish.

Last season also saw Disasi make his international senior debut for France as he started in their Group D loss to Tunisia at the FIFA World Cup, before he went on to feature as a substitute in their Round of 16 win over Poland and defeat to Argentina in the Final.

The 25 year-old has since made one further appearance for France in a 3-0 away win over Gibraltar in UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying last month.

His performances consequently attracted interest from various European clubs including Manchester United and Newcastle, yet Chelsea have managed to secure his services on a six-year contract until June 2029.

Speaking about Disasi’s decision to move to Chelsea, co-sporting Directors – Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley commented: “Axel has showcased his quality over several seasons in France and that has deservedly led to recognition on the international stage.

“He is ready to take the next step in his career and we are delighted that will be with Chelsea. We welcome him to the club and look forward to him joining up with Mauricio Pochettino and his new teammates in the days ahead.”

Disasi could make his competitive debut for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge against Liverpool in a 4:30pm BST kick-off on Sunday 13 August, live on Sky Sports.
