Forward, Deniz Undav has joined VfB Stuttgart on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion for 2023-24 season.
Undav joined Brighton from Union Saint-Gilloise in January 2022 and spent six months on loan at the Belgian club, before he went on to score eight goals in 30 appearances for the Seagulls last season.
The 27 year-old however has decided to leave Brighton on loan for this season as he chases regular game time, with view of earning a call-up for Germany who will be hosting UEFA Euro 2024 next summer.
Brighton’s Technical Director, David Weir has urged fans to “respect” Undav’s decision to join Stuttgart and play in Bundesliga.
Explaining why fans should support Undav through his loan spell in Germany, Weir commented: “He is a popular guy in the dressing room and did really well at the end of last season, but this is a good opportunity for him to get his first taste of top-flight football in his homeland.”
Weir also iterated that the club “will be monitoring him closely throughout the year” in terms of progress at Stuttgart.
Undav meanwhile spoke to www.vfb.de about his decision to join Stuttgart, as he said: “I’m overjoyed to play in the Bundesliga in the future. The way VfB tried to get me, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to move here.
“The discussions with the coach have been very good and I’m looking forward to getting started quickly with the team.”
Stuttgart’s Sporting Director, Fabian Wohlgemuth added that Undav “is in his prime” stages of his career and is “delighted” to secure the 27 year-old on a season-long loan, with Undav wearing the number 26 shirt.
Undav could make his debut for Stuttgart away to TSG Balingen in the First Round of 2023-24 DFB Pokal.
