Bolton Wanderers have signed midfielder, Paris Maghoma on loan from Brentford for 2023-24 season.

Maghoma has spent the last three-and-a-half years with Brentford’s B team following a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020.

Last season saw Maghoma initially join AFC Wimbledon on loan but he failed to score in 24 appearances before he was recalled in January, although he was quickly back out on loan but to MK Dons where his only goal in 20 appearances came in a 1-1 draw at Lincoln City.

Maghoma now will spend this season with Bolton who missed out on promotion via League One play-offs last season, having lost to Barnsley in the semi-finals although the Tykes went on to lose the Final to Sheffield Wednesday.

“This is an excellent opportunity for Paris to go and play for an ambitious club,” commented Brentford’s Director of Football – Phil Giles

Giles also iterated that he is “… excited to track his progress with a side that challenged for promotion to the Championship last season and will probably hope to do so again.”

“He’s someone we’ve monitored closely throughout his loans and we’re delighted to have him with us,” said Bolton boss, Ian Evatt.

Evatt proceeded to speak about Maghoma’s background as a former youth player for Spurs, as he added: “He’s got an excellent background in terms of where he has started his career and then gained really good experience last season, including a significant number of games in League One.

“He has got a bit of everything and will strengthen our midfield options and add to the competition for places going into the season.”

Maghoma has begun training with his teammates and will wear the number 19 shirt this season, plus is set to make his debut for the Trotters in their opening match of the new season at home against Lincoln City.
