Burnley have signed forward, Nathan Redmond on a free transfer from Besiktas.

Ex Southampton forward, Redmond spent last season playing for Turkey’s Besiktas where he scored six goals in 28 appearances.

Redmond however left the club after his contract expired and has returned to England, as he opted to join Burnley on a two-year contract until June 2025, with option to extend by a further 12 months.

The 29 year-old admitted that he had always wanted to return to the Premier League despite joining Besiktas last September, as he explained: “I always had aspirations to play again in the Premier League. Burnley’s project matches with my ambitions.

“The management team feel like they can enhance my game more and see the value I can bring on and off the field. It feels like a perfect match.”

On getting stuck into first-team action as Burnley prepare for their Premier League season-opener against Manchester City at Turf Moor on 11 August, Redmond said: “I’m eager to get into training, eager to learn and eager to process all the information that the management team are going to offload onto me so it’s exciting times for me.”

Redmond also spoke about acting as a senior figurehead when the club hits a rut in their first season back in the top-flight, as he quipped: “They wanted me to come here and compete with the other players and also be that sort of voice in the dressing room when times are hard, and they need a bit of a lift but also when times are happy that we can maintain the high standards that we set ourselves.”

Burnley manager, Vincent Kompany added that Redmond will bring “… a wealth of experience from playing in the Premier League and more recently from his time in Turkey where he’s been outstanding. We’re looking forward to playing a big part in his next chapter.”

Kompany also praised Redmond for his desire to further develop his game, as he added: “He’s got a great work ethic, plenty of skill and a willingness to continue learning. He also brings his personality and character to this football club which will benefit the younger players here.”

Redmond has racked up 264 senior appearances in the Premier League across previous stints at Norwich and Southampton.
