Burnley have signed striker, Zeki Amdouni from Basel for an undisclosed fee.

Amdouni’s move comes after he scored 22 goals in 52 appearances for Basel last season whilst in the first season of a two-year loan deal, which was converted into a permanent transfer from Lausanne-Sport in recent weeks.

Amdouni though was in discussions with Burnley whilst his move to Basel was finalised and the Swiss club subsequently agreed to let him join the Clarets, albeit for an undisclosed transfer fee as the 22 year-old signed a five-year contract at Turf Moor until June 2028.

Speaking about his decision to join Burnley, Amdouni commented: “I’m very happy to be here and I’m excited to start.

“The last two months were very important to me; I spoke to the coach, and he really wanted me. Also, I really wanted to work with him, for me that’s the most important. For my career, to choose a good club, where the coach wants you is important to me.

“I know the Premier League is best league in the world. It’s not easy for sure but I am confident with the coach, and the staff, I can do good things here.”

Amdouni also spoke about his desire to learn and improve his game, as he said: “I want to take the most experience from it as possible. To play the game, to learn, and to be a good player here.”

Manager, Vincent Kompany added: “He’s been on our radar for quite a while now.

“Zeki is such a goal threat. The way he can play the final pass creates so many assists and thanks to the amount of work he puts in on the pitch – he scores plenty himself.”

Kompany also praised the Switzerland Under-21s international for his attitude as he continued: “He’s a very intelligent footballer, technically gifted and with a great work ethic. He works really hard!

“We’re looking forward to working with him. He’s a big talent.”

Amdouni could make his competitive debut for Burnley at home to reigning champions, Manchester City in the Premier League season-opener on Friday 11 August, live on Sky Sports in a 8pm BST kick-off.
