Bournemouth have signed midfielder, Roman Faivre from Lyon for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Faivre’s move brings his 18-month stint at Lyon to a close during which he scored three goals in 28 appearances, whilst he spent the second-half of last season on loan at FC Lorient where he scored five goals in 17 appearances.
Faivre has signed a five-year contract with Bournemouth but will return to FC Lorient on a season-long loan as part of the 24 year-old’s development.
Bournemouth’s Chief Executive, Neill Blake explained that Faivre promises to be a “great” signing after having monitored his progress for the last three seasons, since the Frenchman joined Brest in 2020 where he scored 14 goals in 59 appearances prior to his move to Lyon.
Blake added that the Cherries “were particularly impressed with his progress while on loan at Lorient” so opted to send him on a season-long loan back to the French club, with view of enabling him to make further progress this season in his development.
Upon re-joining Lorient, Faivre said that he is “obviously happy” to join the club for a full season and added that he “took a lot of pleasure last season to evolve within this team,” with support of staff and Lorient supporters.
Faivre also iterated that upon signing for Bournemouth, he felt that his “priority” was to return on a season-long loan to Lorient, with view to continuing his “progress seen at the end of last season” and pass his own “milestone in terms of collective and individual performance.”
Lyon meanwhile issued the following statement upon confirmation of Faivre’s move as they commented: “Olympique Lyonnais wishes Romain every success for the rest of his career with Bournemouth.”
Faivre began his career with Monaco where he made four first-team appearances during 2018-19 season, although he didn’t feature in the 2019-20 campaign for the senior squad before he left to join Brest.
