Midfielder, Manuel Lanzini will leave West Ham upon expiry of his contract on 30 June 2023.
Lanzini arrived at West Ham from Saudi Arabia’s Al Jazira in July 2015 and has gone on to score 32 goals in 226 appearances across all competitions.
In his final season with the Hammers, Lanzini helped the team win 2022-23 UEFA Europa Conference League title with two goals in 11 appearances in that particular competition, of which both goals were scored in group wins over Denmark’s Silkeborg.
Paying tribute to Lanzini for his contribution to the club, manager – David Moyes said: “On behalf of the players and coaching staff, I would like to thank Manu and wish him all the very best for the future.
“Manu has been a tremendous servant for the football club and a brilliant player for me in my time here as manager. In my first spell he played a key role in helping us to stay up, and he has always been someone I can rely on.
“He has some wonderful memories at West Ham – including that famous equaliser at Tottenham when we came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3. People still talk about that goal and what that result did to increase the confidence and belief around the Club at that time.”
Moyes proceeded to applaud the 30 year-old for his professionalism despite not playing regularly, as he concluded: “Manu is a fantastic professional, a really good lad, and whichever club he joins will have an excellent player on their hands.
“We are sorry to see him go, but he deserves the opportunity to play more regularly elsewhere, and we wish him well in his next adventure.”
Ex teammate and Sporting Director, Mark Noble added that being “team-mate and a friend” of Lanzini is “a privilege” ,after initially having anticipated the Argentinean to “struggle” with the rigors of English Football before Lanzini had even trained with Noble and the senior squad.
Noble proceeded to admit that upon seeing Lanzini train, he changed his mind and instead predicted Lanzi “to be one of the most special players West Ham fans will ever see.”
Reflecting upon what it was like training alongside Lanzini, Noble commented: “Manu is what I would call a player’s player. Until you have trained and played with him, you really don’t appreciate just how gifted and talented he is.
“Technically superb, fantastic vision, and so unselfish in how he uses the ball and helps the team.
“For the last eight years, he has given absolutely everything for the Club. It was a true pleasure to play alongside him in West Ham’s midfield, and to count him as a great friend during his time here.”
Noble even iterated that his door is always open if Lanzini needs support, as he added: “I told him, after he left here as a European champion last week, that I will always be here for him, and he will always be welcome back by everyone at West Ham United.”
