2022-23 Premier League: Week 38 – Manchester United vs Fulham

Manchester United host Fulham at Old Trafford on the final day of 2022-23 Premier League season.

Victory would see Man Utd finish third in the table regardless of what Newcastle acheive elsewhere, whilst Fulham are guaranteed tenth place no matter what happens elsewhere on the final day.

Luke Shaw is a doubt for Man Utd after he suffered a back injury during their midweek win over Chelsea.

Antony (ankle) is unlikely to feature with manager – Erik Ten Hag set to not risk key players ahead of next weekend’s FA Cup Final against Manchester City.

Phil Jones, Donny van de Beek, Marcel Sabitzer (all knee), Lisandro Martinez (foot) and Mason Greenwood (personal) remain absent.

Fulham could welcome Daniel James back into contention after he missed their last three matches with a hamstring injury.

Tim Ream (arm), Layvin Kurzawa (knee) and Andreas Pereira (leg) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Man Utd host Fulham at 4:30pm BST at Old Trafford on Sunday 28 May, untelevised live in the UK.

Prediction

Having hammered Chelsea on Thursday evening to secure Champions League qualification, it will be interesting to see if Ten Hag opts to push to secure third place or if he experiments with some of Utd’s fringe players with one eye on the FA Cup Final next weekend.

Either way, Utd will be happy with how their league campaign has turned out after a disastrous start with some shambolic performances, so a guaranteed top-four finish plus Carabao Cup title are strong achievements in reflection.

Fulham meanwhile have nothing to play for here with tenth place guaranteed but I can’t see them treating this as the dead rubber match that it is, especially after their explosive FA Cup heartbreak here back in March so will surely be eager to atone for that controversial loss.

Marco Silva’s Cottagers however must improve their final touch after a wasteful draw against Crystal Palace, where poor marking cost them a win after having fought back to lead.

Utd though are very comfortable at home but if Fulham play like they did in March and score first, I fancy them to get something here if Utd aren’t at full strength with their line-up.

Prediction: Manchester United 1-1 Fulham

Result: Manchester United 2-1 Fulham
