Aston Martin will partner Honda in a works partnership from 2026 F1 season onwards.

The move will see Honda part ways with Red Bull and AlphaTauri at end of 2025 season, having currently agreed to provide technical support despite having left the sport as a proper power unit supplier in late 2021.

Speaking about Aston Martin’s decision to link up with Honda, Executive Chairman, Lawrence Stroll said: “I would like to welcome Honda and Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) to the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One® Team.

“We share a mutual drive, determination, and relentless ambition to succeed on track.

“Honda is a global titan and its success in motorsport is longstanding and incredibly impressive. I would like to thank Mr Mibe and Mr Watanabe, and the whole team at HRC as we embark on this exciting future together from 2026.”

Under the deal, Honda will supply Aston Martin with power units in compliance with the new F1 power unit regulations, which will be introduced in 2026.

Honda Global CEO, Toshihiro Mibe meanwhile explained that the company’s decision to “take up the new challenge in F1 is that the world’s pinnacle form of racing is striving to become a sustainable racing series,” in line with Honda’s ambitions towards achieving carbon neutrality.

Mibe also explained what Honda believes is needed to triumph under F1’s new regulations in 2026, as he added: “With the new 2026 regulations, the key for winning will be a compact, lightweight, and high-power electric motor with a high-performance battery capable of handling high and swift power output, as well as the energy management technology.”

Mibe proceeded to praise Aston Martin for sharing a “same sincere attitude and determination to win,” and have vowed to help the team in their ambition to win the F1 driver and constructor titles.

Aston Martin will in the mean time remain a Mercedes customer team until the end of 2025 season.
