Manager, Mark Robins has committed his future to Coventry City until June 2027 with a new four-year contract.

Robins first enjoyed a five-month spell in charge of Coventry between September 2012 – February 2013, before he returned in March 2017 for a second stint during which he led them to 2016-17 EFL Trophy title amidst relegation from League One.

He then led the Sky Blues to an instant promotion back into League One the following season via the Play-Offs, before going on to guide them to promotion in 2019-20 season – albeit on Points-Per-Game rule after the season was curtailed early due to the Coronavirus pandemic in March 2020.

Robins has since established Coventry in the Championship where they are currently preparing for the second leg of their Play-Off semi-final at Middlesbrough tonight (17 May), having drawn 0-0 in the first leg at home last Sunday (14 May).

Speaking about his decision to sign a new contract, Robins said that he is “delighted” to extend his stay at Coventry, and described the opportunity as “an easy decision to make” as he thanked the Club for showing their support amidst a change of ownership in January.

Robins also was reflective of the team’s progress despite having their focus on tonight’s match, as he added: “While our focus is on tonight’s game, the journey that we have been on together as a Club has been amazing so far.

“I look forward to continuing that work in the next four years and the improvement on and off the pitch of this great Football Club.”

Owner, Doug King added that Robins’ success at the club “is well documented” and is “thrilled” to retain the 53 year-old as manager for four more seasons.

King also praised Robins for his leadership qualities and ambition, as he added: “More importantly though since taking control of the club in January, and as an outsider, I have been extremely impressed with the leadership skills and authority with which Mark operates.

“He also remains hugely ambitious both personally and for the continued resurgence of Coventry City Football Club which is critical, and I believe that the club is now in a position to support those ambitions and take our Club back to the top tier of English football.”

Victory on Teesside tonight would see Robins’ Sky Blues secure a Play-Off Final spot against Luton at Wembley on Saturday 27 May with promotion to the Premier League at stake, after the Hatters came from behind to defeat Sunderland on aggregate in the other play-off semi-final.
