2022-23 UEFA Europa League – Semi-Finals: Second Leg – Sevilla vs Juventus

Sevilla host Juventus at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in the second leg of their 2022-23 UEFA Europa League semi-final.

With the tie locked at 1-1 on aggregate, victory would see either Sevilla or Juventus advance to the Final against the winner of AS Roma’s tie against Bayer Leverkusen.

A draw though would see the tie go to extra-time and potentially penalties.

Sevilla could be without Suso after he missed their last three matches with a hamstring injury.

Tanguy Nianzou (muscle) is unlikely to return unless match fit but Pape Gueye (ineligible), Joan Jordan (Achilles) and Marcao Teixeira (muscle) remain absent.

Juventus will be without midfielder, Paul Pogba after he suffered a thigh injury during their Serie A win at home to Cremonese last weekend.

Leonardo Bonucci (hamstring), Mattia De Sciglio (knee) and Kaio Jorge (tendon) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Sevilla host Juventus at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Thursday 18 May at 9pm CET (8pm UK Time), with the match broadcast live on BT Sport 2 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Sevilla have won just one of their five previous meetings against Juventus in all competitions (W1, D2, L2).
  • Juventus have won one of their two previous visits to Sevilla in all UEFA competitions (W1, L1), winning 3-1 in November 2016 just 11 months after they lost 1-0 in December 2015.
  • Sevilla have scored one goal in each of their two previous home matches against Juventus in all UEFA competitions.
  • Sevilla have scored eight goals at home in the knockout stages without conceding (W3).
  • Juventus have scored first in each of their three away games in the knockout stages (W2, D1).

Prediction

As experienced Europa League winners, Sevilla will hold little fear after conceding in injury time at Juventus last week – having dominated the game amidst wasteful finishing from various players when they could of easily had this tie sewn up ahead of this return leg.

Juventus though will be full of confidence after snatching a late equaliser to level the tie in the first leg, and the fact that they’ve scored first in each of their three away games in the knockout stage will only boost their belief coming into this leg.

Nevertheless, this game does feel like it could be close once more but if Sevilla play like they did at home to Manchester United in the Quarter-Finals with a dominant press and can be clinical, I fancy them to have the edge but Juventus should run them close.

Prediction: Sevilla 1-0 Juventus
