All five home nations have discovered their groups for the maiden UEFA Women’s Nations League.

Reigning European champions, England have been placed in League A1 alongside their Auld Enemy – Scotland, meaning that fans can look forward to two Auld Enemy derbies in Autumn 2023.

Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses meanwhile will also face her former team and home country, Netherlands in the group, alongside Belgium who they beat to win this year’s Arnold Clark Cup in February.

Euro 2025 host, Switzerland meanwhile will face Sweden, Spain and Italy in a League A4 group which surely has the ‘group of death’ feels about it, given the strong quality of all four teams in this new Women’s Nations League which involves promotion and relegation between Leagues A-C.

France will play Norway, Austria and Portugal in League A2, whilst Germany were drawn against Denmark, Iceland and Wales in League A3.

Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland both sit in League B where they were drawn together in Group B1 alongside Hungary and Albania, in the stand-out group of that tier.

League C meanwhile involves five groups – of which four groups have four teams plus one group consisting of three teams; of which North Macedonia, Kosovo and Bulgaria were put in that three-team group.

Group fixtures will be played across Autumn 2023 with League A group winners meeting in a knockout tournament across 21-28 February 2024, during which promotion and relegation matches will also take place involving League B runners-up facing third-placed teams in League A.

The three best third-placed teams in League B meanwhile will play the three best-ranked League C runners-up, with the higher-ranked team from each league in each promotion/relegation tie playing the second leg at home.

Those who finish last in each League A group will however be automatically relegated to League B, whilst the lowest-ranked third-placed team of League B will suffer automatic relegation to League C.
