Brighton manager, Roberto De Zerbi praised his players for their “fantastic” performance in a 6-0 league win over Wolves.

After suffering a shock midweek defeat at Nottingham Forest, Brighton bounced back with a dominant six-goal mauling of Wolves at the AMEX Stadium, in which Deniz Undav, Pascal Gross and Danny Welbeck all scored twice.

“I am not surprised, I love my players and it’s an honour to work here,” commented De Zerbi on his players’ “fantastic” response to a tough week, which saw them miss out on a second FA Cup Final on penalties to Manchester United then lose at Forest just days later.

This match also marked the first time that a team under De Zerbi has won 6-0 since Italy’s Foggia Calcio beat Ischia Isolaverde in March 2015.

De Zerbi though felt that Brighton’s performance was his best game as a manager as he commented: “I think today was my best game as a coach but now we have to prepare for the next game. We deserve to achieve our target, to finish in a European spot.

“I don’t want to speak about tactics or style of play, I want to speak only about the attitude and the passion because we are enduring a very tough period with many games in a row. In the last two games – Manchester United and Nottingham – we suffered a lot.”

De Zerbi also iterated that the performance is a statement of intent that his squad shouldn’t be written off as he added: “This is the answer of people with passion and value, for this I am honoured to work with them.”

Undav and Billy Gilmour meanwhile made only their third league starts of the season and De Zerbi praised the pair for adding “more energy,” to the team as he admitted that quality of other players had limited their game time.
