Winger, Onel Hernandez has signed a new two-year contract at Norwich City until June 2025.

Hernandez first arrived at Carrow Road in January 2018 from Eintracht Braunschweig and has gone on to score 13 goals in 147 appearances across all competitions, during which he has been part of two promotion-winning campaigns plus their relegation from Premier League in 2019-20 season.

The Cuba international also spent 2021-22 season on loan at Middlesbrough then Birmingham City, where he scored four goals in 40 total appearances across both clubs, of which three of those goals were scored for Birmingham.

Speaking to www.canaries.co.uk about signing a new contract until June 2025 with option for one further year, Hernandez said: “I’m very thankful and grateful to David [Wagner] and Stuart [Webber] for giving me a new chance to play for the club that I love.

“The last five years have been the greatest that I’ve had in football. The city, the people, the fans, the club, the teammates I’ve had – there’s nothing else in my career that I can say is better.

“I always try to give my best, I work on myself and I work hard.”

Norwich’s Sporting Director, Stuart Webber added that Hernandez “has worked hard since he walked through the door and is very much deserving of this new contract.”

Webber also praised the winger for his “great character” in attitude plus experience and is “delighted” to see him commit his future for two more seasons.

On how Hernandez fits into the club’s plans for next season under Head Coach – David Wagner, Webber added: “As we set about shaping the squad for next season, where we anticipate a number of changes, it was decided by all that Onel has a big part to play with us.”

Norwich currently sit 10th in the Championship with three games left as the Canaries fight for a play-off spot.
