2022-23 Premier League: Week 31 – Tottenham vs Bournemouth

Top-four chasing Tottenham Hotspur host relegation battling Bournemouth at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Victory would see Spurs go fourth with Manchester United not in action until Sunday, whilst Bournemouth can go 13th with a win if results elsewhere swing in their favour.

Tottenham have no fresh injury concerns to report after their dramatic victory against Brighton last weekend.

Emerson Royal (knee), Ben Davies, Ryan Sessegnon (both hamstring), Rodrigo Bentancur (ACL), Yves Bissouma (ankle) and Lucas Moura (suspension) remain absent.

Bournemouth could welcome Marcos Senesi back from a hamstring injury which forced him to miss their win at Leicester.

Hamed Traore (foot), Ryan Fredericks (calf) and Junior Stanislas (unspecified) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Tottenham face Bournemouth at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at 3pm BST on Saturday 15 April, albeit untelevised in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Tottenham have lost just one of their last five meetings against Bournemouth (W3, D1, L1).
  • Bournemouth lost their only previous visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (L1), although they are yet to beat Spurs on the road in the Premier League (L5).
  • Spurs have won two of their last three meetings against Bournemouth by 3-2 result, except for a 0-0 draw in July 2020.
  • Harry Kane has scored five goals in his last four appearances for Tottenham (W2, D2).
  • Bournemouth’s Philip Billing has scored five of his seven league goals this season away from home (W2, D1, L2).

Prediction

With the top-four still within sight following their decisive if lucky win against Brighton, Tottenham now need to make hay if want to keep Man Utd under pressure given that they don’t have any games in hand.

Spurs though will be pleased with how clinical they were last weekend even though they rode their luck defensively thanks to VAR, from which I do expect them to kick on and chase another win because their last seven games are seriously tough – especially away from home.

Bournemouth though are battling for their lives and were excellent in their clinical win at Leicester, yet their end product often lacked accuracy or indecisiveness to shoot at perfect moments, which can’t be repeated here because Spurs will be much tougher opposition.

I however just don’t see Tottenham losing here but hopefully Bournemouth can at least bring the fight and push Spurs all the way.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Bournemouth

Result: Tottenham 2-3 Bournemouth
