UK & Ireland have officially submitted their final bid for hosting rights to UEFA Euro 2028.

In November 2022, English, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland Football Associations all announced a preliminary bid for UEFA Euro 2028 hosting rights, which has now been officially converted into a proper finalised bid.

As part of the bid, England will have six host stadiums compared to one stadium for each of Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, with the following stadiums selected as host venues;

  • Wembley Stadium, London, (90,652)
  • National Stadium of Wales, Cardiff, (73,952)
  • Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, (62,322)
  • City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester, (61,000)
  • Everton Stadium, Liverpool, (52,679)
  • St James’ Park, Newcastle, (52,305)
  • Villa Park, Birmingham, (52,190)
  • Hampden Park, Glasgow, (52,032)
  • Dublin Arena, Dublin, (51,711)
  • Casement Park, Belfast, (34,500)

Almost three million tournament tickets will be made available – which will be more tickets available than at any previous UEFA Euro, with an average capacity of 58,000 meaning that more fans can attend with matches hosted across the British Isles covering several regions.

Sustainability and governance will also be at the heart of the bid’s priorities with a ‘compact and connected’ transport plan, which will enable over 80% of ticket holders to travel to matches via public transport.

Match schedules will be designed to reduce emissions whilst the event would adhere to UEFA’s major event human rights principles, with aim of creating ‘an inclusive, discrimination-free and equal work environment for colleagues and volunteers.’

All five British Football Associations also pointed towards England’s successful UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 as example of their ‘proud reputation’ of hosting sporting tournaments.

Their slogan has also been confirmed as ‘ Football for all, Football for good. Football for the future’ with promise of helping all five host Assocations and UEFA create ‘a more diverse and inclusive game as well as connect with new audiences and the next generation of fans and volunteers.’

All five Football Associations also praised the Government for providing an ‘once-in-a-generation legacy investment,’ which aims to transform the development of football and generate economic, environmental and social benefits of up to £2.6 billion.

Grassroots facilities will also see investment aimed at making vital upgrades and improvements with expanded investment programmes planned in coming years.

A £45m legacy fund will also be created and invested in to help develop the game and create further legacies across the British Isles, whilst creating ‘positive long-term community impact’ from volunteering to tourism and training which will provide fresh life skills for people.

All five Football Associations also jointly iterated that they will work to progress their bid plans, with the following statement: “We look forward to continuing our engagement with UEFA and listening and learning from the European football family to enhance our bid plans.”
