Defender, Luke Shaw has signed a new four-and-a-half year contract at Manchester United until June 2027.

Shaw first joined Man Utd from Southampton in June 2014 and has since gone on to score four goals in 249 senior appearances, during which he suffered a double leg fracture in September 2015 against PSV Eindhoven in a Champions League match.

Across his time at Utd, Shaw has also scored three goals in 27 senior international appearances for England, having previously made two international appearances in 2014 whilst at Southampton.

Speaking about his decision to commit his future to United, Shaw commented: “Nine years ago, I signed for this amazing club, and I’m thrilled to be extending my stay.

“I’ve grown immensely since coming to Manchester all those years ago, both as a person and as a player; I know what is needed to succeed at a club like this.”

Utd are currently competing for a top-four Premier League finish plus a cup treble this season – having already secured the Carabao Cup title with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium in late February.

Shaw has scored one goal in 36 appearances this season under Erik Ten Hag and the 27 year-old believes that serious long-term success is possible, as he added: “We’re at the beginning of our journey under the manager and his coaching staff.

“We’ve been successful already this season, but we want much more. There’s a great opportunity to create something special here, and I’m going to give everything to be part of that.”

United’s Football Director, John Murtough meanwhile described Shaw as “a massively important player to the squad and has grown into one of the best defenders in the world.”

Murtough also praised the fullback for his understanding of what is expected at Utd in terms of success, as he continued: “He has been at the club for nearly a decade and understands the expectations for success, and the hard work, commitment and high standards required to achieve it.

“He has added leadership to his other outstanding abilities, and we all look forward to seeing him in a Manchester United shirt for years to come.”
