2022-23 Premier League: Week 28 – Arsenal vs Leeds

Title chasing Arsenal host struggling Leeds United in a huge Premier League clash at Emirates Stadium.

Should Manchester City lose in the lunchtime kick-off, victory would see Arsenal move 11 points clear at the summit.

Leeds meanwhile can go 12th with a win if results elsewhere swing in their favour.

William Saliba is unlikely to be available for Arsenal as he continues to recover from a back injury suffered during their win over Crystal Palace before the international break.

Kieran Tierney (calf) and Thomas Partey (knock) both are doubtful but Takehiro Tomiyasu, Mohammed Elneny (both knee) and Eddie Nketiah (ankle) remain absent.

Leeds could be without Wilfried Gnonto after he suffered a right ankle injury during Italy’s win over Malta in the international break.

Max Wober (hamstring) is a doubt but Tyler Adams (hamstring), Adam Forshaw (hip) and Stuart Dallas (thigh) remain ruled out.

When is Kick-Off?

Arsenal host Leeds United in a 3pm BST kick-off on Saturday 1 April at Emirates Stadium, albeit untelevised in UK.

Stat Attack

  • Arsenal are unbeaten in their last seven league meetings against Leeds (W6, D1).
  • Leeds have lost each of their two previous league visits to Arsenal’s current home – Emirates Stadium (L2), during which they conceded six goals and scored three goals.
  • Mikel Arteta’s Gunners have kept just one clean sheet in their last four meetings against Leeds.
  • Six of Arsenal’s last seven league goals at home have been scored after half-time.
  • Leeds have won just one of their last eight league matches away from home (W1, D2, L5).

Prediction

With an eight-point lead and not familiar with fighting for the league title come this run-in, this clash is an early test of Arsenal’s credentials but after demolishing Palace with a fantastic attacking performance, I do expect more of the same quality here.

Leeds meanwhile are in a scrap for survival and are yet to win at the Emirates but they will be buoyed by a strong aggressive attacking win at Wolves a fortnight ago, where they were dangerous throughout on the attack but let down by silly defensive mistakes.

This trip though is a much tougher ask for Leeds because their defence will have to be excellent on top of a clinical attack, yet they do have the intensity and press to trouble Arsenal but I just can’t see Mikel Arteta’s Gunners losing this game if they’re at their best.

Prediction: Arsenal 2-1 Leeds

Result: Arsenal 4-1 Leeds
