Swansea City midfielder, Jay Fulton has signed a two-year contract extension until June 2026.

Fulton first joined Swansea in January 2014 and has since gone on to score 14 goals in 205 senior appearances, despite being part of the squad which got relegated from the Premier League at conclusion of 2017-18 season.

During his time at Swansea, Fulton also enjoyed loan stints at Oldham and Wigan where he made 17 appearances in total across both clubs, plus scored one goal for Wigan.

Fulton’s contract was due to expire in June 2024 but the Bolton-born midfielder has decided to extend his stay for two further seasons until June 2026.

“It’s really positive news for the club,” commented head coach Russell Martin, who described Fulton as “a big player” for the Swans this season on and off the pitch as the club struggled to mount a fight for a play-off spot following a mid-season slump in form.

Martin also praised Fulton for his versatility and character as he added: “He’s a brilliant pro and a great character.

“He’s also really flexible in terms of his positioning on the pitch, he’s done a few things for us this season and each one he has done with unbelievable commitment and dedication.

“He’s a really good player to have here, he cares deeply about the club and the city. He was really keen to stay here, and we were really keen to get it all done so I’m pleased it’s sorted.”

Fulton though struggled for game time last season against Flynn Downes but has rebounded back into a regular starting position this season, following Downes’ move to West Ham.

Martin proceeded to acknowledge Fulton’s spirit to bounce back from last season’s drop in game time, as he said: “Last season was tough for him but we’ve always had a great relationship. This year he has come back with a different mentality and he’s been one of our top players this season.”

Swansea’s Head of Football Operations, Josh Marsh added that the club “are delighted” to retain Fulton who he has rated as “one of our standout and most consistent performers this season.”

Marsh also iterated that Fulton “is an experienced player in what is a young squad, and has experience of what it takes to compete at the top end of the Championship and in the Premier League, which is really valuable to us.”
