Midfielder, Moises Caicedo has signed a new long-term contract at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Caicedo’s decision to commit his future to Brighton comes just weeks after he was banned from their Fourth Round win over Liverpool in the FA Cup, due to wanting a permanent transfer to Arsenal who were interested in signing the player.
The 21 year-old midfielder though has now signed a four-and-a-half year contract until June 2027 with option held by the club to extend the contract by a further 12 months until June 2028.
Manager, Roberto De Zerbi issued the following statement upon confirmation of Caicedo’s new contract: “This is a fantastic news for the club, our fans, for me and most importantly for Moises.”
De Zerbi also iterated that retaining Caicedo is a statement of intent of the club’s ambitions as he added: “It will make us stronger as we move forward towards our targets on the pitch.”
Caicedo joined Brighton from Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle in February 2021 and has since scored twice in 35 appearances, amidst a loan spell at Belgium’s Beerschot between August 2021 – January 2022 in which he netted twice in 14 appearances.
On the international stage, Caicedo has scored twice in 24 appearances for Ecuador – including an equalising goal against Senegal, en-route to Ecuador’s exit in the Group Stage at 2022 FIFA World Cup after losing that match 2-1 through Kalidiou Koulibaly’s 70th minute volley.
