2022-23 Sky Bet Championship: Week 33 – Saturday

Luton Town host Burnley at Kenilworth Road as both teams continue their fight for promotion.

Victory would see Luton stay fourth in the table, whilst Burnley can extend their lead at the top to a maximum of 11 points depending upon how Sheffield United fare elsewhere.

Alfie Doughty is a doubt for Luton after he missed their 1-1 draw at Preston in midweek with a groin injury.

Cody Drameh (knee) remains absent.

Burnley will be without Jordan Beyer after he suffered a muscle injury during their 1-1 draw against Watford in midweek.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis (foot), Manuel Benson (ankle) and Jay Rodriguez (knock) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Luton host Burnley at Kenilworth Road on Saturday 18 February in a 3pm GMT kick-off, untelevised in UK.

Stat Attack

  • Luton are winless in their last five meetings against Burnley (D3, L2).
  • Burnley have won five of their last seven visits to Kenilworth Road (W5, L2).
  • Luton have conceded six goals across their last three meetings at home to Burnley (W1, L2).
  • Rob Edwards’ Hatters have opened the scoring in each of their three league matches played at home in 2023 (W2, L1).
  • Eight of Burnley’s nine draws in the Championship this season have finished 1-1, except for a 3-3 draw at home to Blackpool in August.

Prediction

With Sheffield United having slipped up in midweek, Luton missed a huge opportunity to put themselves right in the mix for automatic promotion with a hugely wasteful attacking performance at Preston, where they simply lacked end product and could only draw against ten men.

Edwards now needs to get his players to quickly refocus and tighten their composure when finishing off their attacks, because if they put in another shocker of a performance then they will certainly lose this game.

Burnley though also drew in midweek after a wasteful attacking performance of their own on top of some awful goalkeeping from Arijanet Muric in the first-half, so I do expect them to come out with a point of their own to prove.

On that note, I do expect both teams to look to attack this game which certainly should make for a thrilling battle, so a draw would be a fair result unless either team can tidy up their end product.

Prediction: Luton 1-1 Burnley

Result: Luton 0-1 Burnley
