Moises Caicedo misses out for personal reasons amidst rumours over his future at the club, following a transfer bid from Arsenal.

Liverpool could be without James Milner and Nat Phillips after the pair struggled with illness this week.

Fabio Carvalho (knock) is ruled out for this match but could return next weekend for Liverpool’s trip to Wolves.

Virgil Van Dijk (hamstring), Arthur Melo (thigh), Luis Diaz (knee), Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota (both calf) remain absent.

Stat Attack

Prediction

Having defeated Liverpool here just two weeks ago in the Premier League, Brighton certainly should come into this game with confidence because their attacking quality has been immense this past month but their marking will need to be better than it was last weekend at Leicester.

Liverpool meanwhile aren’t exactly in strong form but have kept clean sheets in their last two matches which is a positive sign, yet were lucky to snatch a goalless draw against Chelsea last weekend because they were vulnerable at set pieces and wasteful of their own chances.

Jurgen Klopp though will need to ensure that his Reds are more motivated for this game than they were a fortnight ago, because Brighton have scored at least twice in their last six matches so tight defending might be crucial to at least getting the tie back to Anfield for a replay at minimum.

Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Liverpool

Result: Brighton 2-1 Liverpool
