Ipswich Town meet Burnley at Portman Road in a huge Fourth Round tie in 2022-23 FA Cup.
Victory would see Ipswich reach the Fifth Round for the first time since 2006-07 season, whereas Vincent Kompany’s Clarets are looking to advance from this stage for the fourth time in five seasons.
Team News
Ipswich have no fresh injury concerns to report but Harry Clarke misses out due to being cup-tied, following his appearance for Stoke City in their Third Round win at Hartlepool.
Burnley could hand Lyle Foster and Hjalmar Ekda their debuts after they joined in midweek from K.V.C Westerlo and Djurgardens respectively.
Manuel Benson (ankle) and Johan Berg Gudmundsson (knock) are both ruled out but Jack Cork (suspension) could return due to his ban only applying in the Championship.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis (foot) remains absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Ipswich host Burnley at Portman Road in a 3pm GMT kick-off on Saturday 28 January, albeit untelevised in UK.
Stat Attack
- This is the first-ever FA Cup meeting between Ipswich and Burnley.
- Burnley are visiting Ipswich away from Turf Moor for the first time in any cup competition.
- Ipswich won their only previous tie against Burnley in any cup competition, prevailing 2-1 at Turf Moor in October 1977 in 1977-78 League Cup.
- Ipswich are winless in five of their last seven FA Cup ties against higher league opposition (W1, D1, L5).
- Burnley are unbeaten in three of their last six FA Cup away ties (W2, D1, L3).
Prediction
Despite having recently experienced a dip in form and failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five matches, Ipswich absolutely can’t be underestimated given their attacking quality which is the second-best across both League One and Championship divisions only to Burnley.
Vincent Kompany’s Clarets though also seem to have had their own defensive dip this month – especially after conceding early at home to West Brom last weekend, yet showed unity, composure and spirit to fight back for the win so I expect more of the same here.
Both teams also scored four goals apiece in their Third Round wins over Rotherham and Bournemouth respectively, so a goalless draw shouldn’t be on the cards given the form of both teams but Burnley do feel like they might just have too much quality for Ipswich to handle.
Prediction: Ipswich 1-2 Burnley
Result: Ipswich 0-0 Burnley
