West Ham have signed striker, Danny Ings from Aston Villa for £15m.
Ings’ move sees the English striker leave Villa just 18 months after he joined the club from Southampton, with the 30 year-old having scored 14 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions during his time at Villa Park.
Villa manager, Unai Emery explained in his pre-match press conference ahead of Villa’s trip to Southampton – another of Ings’ former clubs – that the decision to sanction Ings’ move was made because the offer – comprising of £12m fee and £3m in add-ons – was “very good” for both the club and player.
Emery also paid tribute to Ings for his performances at Villa despite having took charge of the club in early November, as the Spaniard commented: “His commitment was amazing here, with his teammates and he helped to better our performance.”
West Ham though are sat in the Premier League relegation zone in 18th position, having scored just 15 league goals this season – of which 10 of those 15 goals were scored by their current forwards; Gianluca Scamacca, Said Benhrama, Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen.
Speaking about his move to East London on a two-and-a-half year contract, Ings said that he is “really excited” to join but iterated that he must adapt quickly, as he explained: “It’s important I settle in as quickly as I can do – and do the important stuff on the pitch for West Ham.
“We’ve got some massive games ahead of us – and I’ve come here to try and score as many goals as I can to help the team to get some positive results.”
Aside from Villa and Southampton, Ings has also previously played for Bournemouth, Dorchester Town, Burnley and Liverpool, plus scored one goal in three international caps for England between 2015-2020.
Ings will wear the number 18 shirt could make his debut for West Ham tomorrow (21 January) in a crucial home match against Everton in race for Premier League survival.
