Southampton have signed midfielder, Mislav Oršic from Dinamo Zagreb for £8m.

Oršic is Southampton’s first signing since Nathan Jones’ arrival as manager following Ralph Hasenhuttl’s sacking in early November 2022, with the Croatian signing a two-and-a-half year contract until June 2025.

Speaking about his decision to join the Saints, Oršic commented: “I feel very happy to be here, I think it’s a dream for every football player to come to play in the Premier League and I’m here, I’m ready, I’m motivated and I hope that I will help the team to achieve their goals.”

Oršic proceeded to speak about how “amazing” the club is but iterated that Premier League survival is their priority, as he added: “Now it’s a little bit of a difficult situation for the club, but I think we need to stay together.

“We have only one plan – everybody to stay in the Premier League. We need to work hard every day and I hope that at the end of the year we will be happy.”

Jones added that he is “delighted” to sign Oršic who he hopes will be “a serious attacking threat” as he hopes that the 30 year-old can build upon his World Cup form.

Orsic also represents Croatia in international football with two goals in 27 appearances, of which his second and most recent goal saw Croatia defeat Morocco 2-1 to finish third at 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Across his career, Orsic has also played for; Inter Zapresic, Spezia, Rijeka, Celje, Jeonnam Dragons, Changchun Yatai and Ulsan Hyundai before he joined Zagreb, of which he now leaves for Southampton with 154 goals in 476 senior appearances in total.
