Burnley continue their march towards promotion following a hectic final Championship matchweek of 2022.
Josh Cullen’s 61st minute rebound strike saw Burnley scrape a narrow victory at Stoke City to ensure that Vincent Kompany’s Clarets finished 2022 sat top of the second-tier.
Sander Berge and James McAtee both converted from assists by Iliman Ndiaye as second-placed Sheffield United defeated second-bottom Blackpool 2-1 away at Bloomfield Road, despite Marvin Ekipteta’s 55th minute strike for the Tangerines.
Comeback goals from Marcus Forss and Riley McGree saw Middlesbrough fight back to defeat third-placed Blackburn Rovers 2-1 away at Ewood Park and go sixth, after Ryan Hedges had given the hosts an early lead before John Buckley was red carded in-between Boro’s goals.
Second-half goals from Ross Stewart, Patrick Roberts and Amad Diallo saw Sunderland clinch a 4-1 win at rock-bottom Wigan to go fourth, after Ellis Simms’ opening goal was cancelled out by the Latics’ Will Keane.
Watford slipped to fifth after they were mauled 4-0 away at Swansea, in which Joel Piroe scored twice for the Swans whilst Liam Cullen and Joel Latibeaudiere provided goals and assists apiece.
Andy Carroll’s late penalty saw Reading snatch a 1-1 draw at seventh-placed Norwich after Adam Idah had put the Canaries ahead.
Elsewhere, Huddersfield moved off the foot of the table with a 2-0 home victory against Rotherham – courtesy of goals from Duane Holmes and Jordan Rhodes either side of half-time to lift the Terriers up to 22nd.
Carlton Morris produced a brace plus assisted in Alfie Doughty’s late goal to seal a 3-0 victory for Luton at QPR.
Okay Yokuslu’s brace saw West Bromwich Albion defeat Preston 2-0 at The Hawthorns to put the Baggies within a point of the play-offs.
Hull picked up their second win under Liam Rosenior as Oscar Estupinian netted a 77th minute winner against Birmingham City.
Finally, Coventry and Millwall were held to goalless draws at home by dogged displays from Cardiff and Bristol City respectively.
