2022-23 Premier League: Week 17 – Manchester City vs Everton

Manchester City welcome Everton to the Etihad Stadium in a crucial clash at opposite ends of the Premier League table.

Victory would see Man City move to within two points of league leaders, Arsenal who aren’t in action until Saturday evening.

Everton meanwhile can stay out of the relegation zone with at least one point if Wolves and Southampton both fail to win elsewhere.

Man City have no fresh injury concerns to report following their win at Leeds as Julian Alvarez (personal) and Ruben Dias (hamstring) both remain absent.

Everton could be without Yerry Mina after he suffered cramp during their Boxing Day loss against Wolves.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (hamstring) and Conor Coady (ineligibility) could both be available for selection

James Garner (back) and Andros Townsend (knee) remain absent.

• Man City are unbeaten in their last 10 league meetings against Everton (W9, D1).
• Everton are winless in their last 11 visits to City’s Etihad Stadium (D4, L7).
• City are unbeaten in six of nine previous Premier League meetings against Everton during the month of December (W4, D2, L3).
• Erling Haaland has been booked in each of Man City’s last two league games played at home.
• Everton have failed to score in any of their last four league matches away from Goodison Park (D1, L3).

 

Prediction

Despite having endured a frustrating first-half at Leeds, Man City’s quality certainly told with three clinical goals but I can’t see this game proving as tricky if City can quickly get on top against a strugglng Everton defence and control this game at their own pace.

Everton meanwhile simply might as well shore up defensively and try to hold out as long as they realistically can, with isolating Haaland looking their best chance of limiting Man City otherwise they will be in trouble after a wasteful performance against Wolves.

Simply put, Everton need a clinical performance if they’re to stand any chance otherwise Man City should comfortably dominate this game.
