Chelsea midfielder, Sophie Ingle has signed a new two-year contract to stay at the club until June 2025.

Ingle’s current contract was set to expire at end of this season but the Wales midfielders has decided to sign a new two-year deal, which will now see her stay with the Blues for two more seasons.

The 31 year-old will now look to add to the eight goals in 151 appearances so far in all competitions since she returned in 2018, having previously failed to score during her first stint with the Blues between 2012-13.

Speaking about her decision to stay at Chelsea, Ingle commented: “I’m really delighted to sign for Chelsea again. I feel like this club is home away from home.

“I’ve settled in from the very first moment that I signed about five years ago. I’m really delighted to continue this journey with this amazing club.”

Chelsea Women’s General Manager, Paul Green added that the club is “delighted” to retain Ingle for two further seasons, and praised the “great experience” she brings to the squad whilst also acting as a leader within the dressing room.

Since Ingle returned to the West-London club, she has helped Chelsea clinch eight trophies, including three consecutive Women’s Super League (WSL) titles plus two Women’s FA Cup and Women’s League Cup honours apiece and 2020 FA Women’s Community Shield.

Green therefore hailed Ingle as “a key player in our success over the last few years,” and is keen to see her help the team win further trophies, as the Blues look to chase a historic quadruple this season across WSL, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Women’s Champions League.

This season also saw Ingle fall short of qualifying for 2023 FIFA World Cup with Wales, following defeat to Switzerland in the UEFA Qualifying Play-Off Finals.

Ingle’s first match since signing this deal will see Chelsea meet London rivals, Arsenal on Sunday 15 January at 12pm in a blockbuster WSL showdown in the title race.
