Forward, Beth Mead has signed a new “multi year” contract to stay at Arsenal.

Mead’s new deal comes just months before her latest contract – signed in November 2019 – expired and will now see the England international stay with the Gunners for at least two more seasons in a multi-year deal.

Since the start of last season, Mead has scored 40 goals for club and country and provided numerous assists in a stellar 15 months, during which she claimed the Golden Boot with six goals as she helped England win 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro on home soil this summer.

“I’m so happy to have signed a new deal with Arsenal,” commented Mead as she celebrated committing her future to the North London based club beyond this season, whilst currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Mead proceeded to reflect on her progress since joining Arsenal from Sunderland in January 2017, as she continued: “This club is home for me – I’ve grown so much here as a player and a person and I know we can achieve so much more together in the years to come.”

On her future ambitions at Arsenal, Mead stated the she wants “to compete to win the biggest trophies in the game and I know that the ambitions at Arsenal match my own,” whilst adding that she is excited to get back on the pitch once given the green light by club doctors.

Arsenal Women’s Head Coach, Jonas Eidevall described Mead’s decision to sign a new contract as “wonderful news” for the club, as he proceeded to hail her as “a world-class footballer” following her exceptional performances over the last 15 months for the Gunners and England.

Eidevall also praised Mead for her attitude on and off the pitch as he continued: “I have so much admiration for the way she has handled success and adversity on and off the pitch over the past few years, and I’m sure she will approach the next few months with the positive attitude we all know Beth for.”

Arsenal’s Head of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley added that the club is “delighted” to secure Mead with a multi-year contract, as she paid tribute to Mead’s progress throughout her time at Arsenal to become “one of the best footballers in the world and her form over the past season has reached new heights.”

Wheatley also expressed pride at Mead’s integral role in England’s Euro success this summer as the Lionesses became the first England team to win a major tournament since their male counterparts in 1966, which left Arsenal feeling “proud” to witness Mead “achieve her dreams” with England.
