Pep Guardiola Signs New Two-Year Contract At Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has signed a new two-year contract as manager of Manchester City until Summer 2025.

Guardiola’s contract was set to conclude in June 2023 upon climax of the current season, in which Man City currently sit second in the Premier League and are still in domestic plus European cup competitions.

During his time at City since he arrived in Summer 2016, Guardiola has led the Citizens to 11 trophies across all competitions;

“I am so pleased to be staying at Manchester City for another two years,” commented Guardiola on his new contract, which will see him further extend his longest spell at any club – after previously spending four seasons at Barcelona and three seasons at Bayern Munich respectively.

Acknowledging the support and trust of everyone at the club, Guardiola added: “I can’t say thank you enough to everyone at the club for trusting me. I am happy and comfortable here. I have everything I need to do my job as best as possible.”

Having won every domestic honour available and finished runners-up in 2020-21 UEFA Champions League to Chelsea, Guardiola iterated that the club will be able to challenge for success in the long-term.

Praising the stability which has enabled their success, Guardiola said: “I know the next chapter of this club will be amazing for the next decade. It happened over the last ten years, and it will happen in the next ten years because this club is so stable.”

Guardiola consequently still feels “something special” at the Etihad Stadium and believes that the team “can achieve together…” as he vowed to stay and continue challenging for trophies.

City Chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak added that he is “delighted” to retain Guardiola for two further seasons, having already “contributed so much to the success and fabric of this organisation, and it’s exciting to think what might be possible given the energy, hunger and ambition that he clearly still has.”

Al Mubarak also noted Guardiola’s “special leadership” which has allowed the club to enjoy prolonged success whilst “constantly evolving,” in talent and admirable “City style of football” which has attracted fans around the world.
