AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly is anticipating “a very emotional weekend” at 2022 Abu Dhabi GP, as he prepares to race for the team for the final time.
Gasly first arrived at the team under their former name – Toro Rosso in Autumn 2017 and has since gone on to achieve one win and two further podium finishes, which all came in his second stint from summer 2019 onwards after he was demoted by Red Bull just months after his promotion from Toro Rosso.
The 26 year-old Frenchman however is coming to the end of his five-year stint with the team but there is still one task to complete, as AlphaTauri looks to snatch eighth in the constructor standings from Haas at the season finale.
Looking ahead to his final race for AlphaTauri as he prepares to move to Alpine next season, Gasly reflected on their journey together, as he commented: “My last one with the team after five years spent together. It means our relationship has been much more than just a working partnership.
“I know all the engineers and mechanics and the people in the factory personally, having spent time together even in our private lives.
“It’s the last race of a long history, as I don’t think many drivers have spent five years with a team.
“There have been so many really great moments that we have shared together and what’s certain, is that whatever happens this weekend I will be trying my very best in the hope we can end with a good race and a nice result.
Gasly therefore is anticipating “a very emotional weekend” for himself and his team despite predicting less “high expectations” than their fifith placed finish at the race last season in a controversial climax, due to this year’s race performance being “difficult” from one race to the next.
2023 will see Gasly move to Alpine to partner Esteban Ocon in an all-French driver line-up.
