Christian Pulisic is amongst eight players across English Football to earn a call-up to USA squad for 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Manager, Gregg Berhalter has confirmed that Arsenal’s Matt Turner will headline the three-man goalkeeping selection alongside New York City’s Sean Johnson and Ethan Horvath, who is currently on loan at Luton on loan from Nottingham Forest.
Gabriel Slonina and Zak Steffen who are currently on loan at Chicago Fire and Middlesbrough from Chelsea and Manchester City respectively, consequently have missed out on a call-up for the tournament.
Fulham’s Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson have both earned calls-up in defence alongside ex Newcastle full-back, DeAndre Yedlin who now plays for Inter Miami.
Crystal Palace’s Chris Richards therefore is absent as he continues to recover from a leg injury suffered during the last international break.
Leeds’ Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson are amongst those called up in midfield whilst Rangers’ James Sands and Malik Tillmans both miss out on a call-up.
Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic has been included in USA’s attack along with Norwich’s Josh Sargent, with the pair joined by Borussia Dortmund’s Giovanni Reyna and Lille’s Timothy Weah, plus Jesus Ferreira and Jordan Morris who play for FC Dallas and Seattle Sounders respectively.
USA will kick off their Group B campaign against Wales on 21 November (7pm UK Time) before facing England on 25 November (7pm UK Time), followed by Iran in their concluding group clash on 29 November (7pm UK Time).
This tournament marks USA’s return to the international stage for the first time since they lost to Belgium 2-1 in extra-time in Round of 16 at 2014 FIFA World Cup, having since failed to qualify for the 2018 edition.
