MP Motorsport have announced that Dennis Hauger will drive for the team in 2023 FIA F2 season.
Hauger currently races for PREMA under who he has already clinched two victories in his rookie F2 campaign in Monaco and Azerbaijan respectively, having previously clinched the 2021 FIA F3 title under the Italian team.
Red Bull Junior Programme bosses and Hauger though have decided to part company with PREMA at end of this season, with the 19 year-old switching to MP Motorsport who guided Felipe Drugovich to this year’s title in dominant style.
“I am really excited about joining MP Motorsport for another assault on the FIA Formula 2 Championship”, commented Hauger as he looks to replicate his F3 form where he had a solid rookie season before winning the title in his second year with the team who clinched drivers’ title the preceding year.
Hauger therefore acknowledged MP Motorsport’s form as he continued: “MP has been the revelation of this season, consistently producing a great car for every round of the season.
“We have recognised that, and it’s wonderful news that we have been able to make the deal work. I’m looking forward to working with the team starting at the Abu Dhabi test, which I hope will be our jump start to a very successful 2023 season.”
MP Motorsport Team Principal, Sander Dorsman added that the team is “absolutely delighted” to sign Hauger given his “calibre” and race record, having previously dominated Italian F4 in 2019 with 12 wins and four further podiums prior to his F3 success in 2021.
Dorsman though expects Hauger to take “no prisoners” like he did in his “truly outstanding” 2021 F3 title-winning campaign, albeit aided by “knowledge and experience” which he has gathered this season in F2 amidst an inconsistent run of form as he strives for “consistent pace-setting form” in 2023.
Hauger will make his MP Motorsport debut in the F2 post-season test in Abu Dhabi in late November.
