Arsenal welcome PSV Eindhoven to Emirates Stadium in a rescheduled Group A clash in 2022-23 UEFA Europa League.
Victory would see Arsenal secure qualification for the knockout stage, whilst PSV Eindhoven can leapfrog the Gunners to go top of Group A.
Team News
Arsenal have no fresh injury concerns to report after their Premier League win at Leeds as Oleksandr Zinchenko remains doubtful with a muscle injury.
Emile Smith Rowe (groin) and Mohamed Elneny (hamstring) remain absent.
PSV could welcome Noni Madueke back from a long-term ankle injury.
Marco van Ginkel (hamstring) and Olivier Boscagli (knee) could also feature but Ismael Saibari (hamstring) and Yorbe Vertessen (muscle) are expected to be absent.
Stat Attack
- Arsenal have lost just one of six previous meetings against PSV Eindhoven (W2, D3, L1).
- PSV are yet to win away against Arsenal (D2, L1), including a 1-1 draw in March 2007 in their only previous visit to Emirates Stadium.
- This is the first-ever competitive meeting between Arsenal and PSV to be played outside of the Champions League.
- Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah has scored twice in three Europa League appearances this season.
- Six of PSV’s eight away goals in UEFA competitions this season were scored before half-time.
Prediction
Having enjoyed a strong start to the season, Arsenal haven’t exactly been at their best in their last two matches but importantly, they have been clinical with excellent defending to frustate Bodoø/Glimt then Leeds but this will be a much tougher test of their credentials.
PSV meanwhile come into this match off the back of 11 goals in their last two matches in all competitions, albeit at home, plus tend to hit their stride quite quickly which Arsenal might need to weather early on defensively unless Mikel Arteta’s Gunners can seize control quickly.
With that in mind, I do feel that the opening minutes will be key because if Arsenal can hold out and frustrate PSV, they certainly should eye a home win but if the Dutch team get in front, this could get quite open competitively between two attacking teams.
Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 PSV
Result: Arsenal 1-0 PSV
