Red Bull and AlphaTauri have strengthened their partnership with Honda until end of 2022 F1 season.

Both teams first used Honda power units from the 2019 season until the Japanese manufacturer withdrew at end of last season, which led Red Bull to take over their power unit project under the title of ‘Red Bull Powertrains’ albeit with collaborative support from Honda.

Both teams and Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) have since decided to strengthen their partnership for remainder of this season, with Honda’s logo displayed on Red Bull and AlphaTauri cars for the final five rounds of the campaign – beginning from the Japanese Grand Prix onwards.

Sergio Perez meanwhile will become a driver ambassador for Honda Racing School’s driver academy, with his new role commencing next month with a lecture session for students at the academy.

Red Bull and AlphaTauri will hold a HRC Thanks Day on Sunday 27 November 2022, with their four drivers – Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda all scheduled to be in attendance at the event.

Red Bull’s Team Principal, Christian Horner has revealed that both his team and AlphaTauri are “very grateful” that Honda’s investment in the development of “hybrid technology” has ensured both teams have remained competitive this season despite Honda’s withdrawl.

Horner also spoke about their aims for the next three seasons under their collaboration with Honda, as he commented: “Our combined goal is to continue to deliver dominant engines and achieve the most success possible in the following three years.”

Honda Head of Corporate Communications Supervisory Unit, Koji Watanabe meanwhile confirmed that the Japanese manufacturer will continue to “fully support” Red Bull and AlphaTauri’s ambitions to make their cars become the “fastest in the world.”

Honda logo will be displayed on the nose plus side pods of Red Bull and AlphaTauri cars, whilst the Japanese GP will be sponsored by Honda.
