2022-23 UEFA Champions League Group Stage: Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham

Eintracht Frankfurt welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Waldstadion in Group D of 2022-23 UEFA Champions League.

Victory would see Frankfurt leapfrog Tottenham into second whereas a win would see Spurs stay second in the group.

Kristijan Jakic is a doubt for Eintracht Frankfurt as he continues to recover from a hip injury suffered on international duty.

Jerome Onguene (groin) is a doubt but Almamy Toure (muscle) and Aurelio Buta (knee) are ruled out.

Tottenham will have Emerson Royal available despite his red card in Saturday’s North London derby at Arsenal, as his suspension only applies to domestic competitions.

Ben Davies (knee), Dejan Kulusevski (muscle) and Lucas Moura (tendon) remain absent.

Prediction

Despite experiencing contrasting fortunes in their two opening group matches, Frankfurt can’t be written off given the talent in their squad but will need to show more of the clinical quality which served them well in Saturday’s Bundesliga win over Union Berlin.

Tottenham meanwhile will definitely be eager to mount a response to Saturday’s toothless defeat against Arsenal, with a more aggressive display and better defensive marking because they clearly are capable of ruthless finishing but just lack consistency.

Antonio Conte though should be concerned about Spurs’ recent poor away record in Europe especially heading to Frankfurt, who have been hard to beat at home but have tended to draw more than win so a draw seems a fair bet given the issues facing both teams.

Prediction: Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Result: Eintracht Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur
