Liverpool look for a second consecutive win as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds welcome unbeaten Newcastle United to Anfield.
Victory would see Liverpool climb to fifth in the table, whilst Newcastle likewise can go fifth with a win.
Team News
Harvey Elliott is a doubt for Liverpool after he was substituted in Saturday’s victory over Bournemouth with a knock.
Curtis Jones (calf) and Joel Matip (groin) could be in contention if they’re both declared match-fit.
Caoimhin Kelleher (groin), Ibrahima Konate (knee), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Diogo Jota (both hamstring), Thiago Alcantara (thigh), Darwin Nunez (suspension), Naby Keita and Calvin Ramsay (both unspecified) remain ruled out.
Newcastle could again be without Alexander Isak unless he receives his work permit in time ahead of the match.
Kieran Trippier (knock), Bruno Guimaraes and Allan Saint-Maximin (both hamstring) are doubts.
Emil Krafth (knee), Jonjo Shelvey and Callum Wilson (both hamstring) remains absent.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 11 meetings against Newcastle (W7, D4).
- Newcastle are winless in their last 26 league visits to Anfield dating back to March 1995 (D5, L21).
- Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has scored in each of his five previous home appearances against Newcastle (W4, D1).
- Luis Diaz has scored three goals in two home matches for Liverpool this season (W1, D1).
- Newcastle are looking to avoid drawing four consecutive league matches for the first time since November-December 2008.
Prediction
Following Saturday’s ruthless victory over a shambolic Bournemouth who mounted no defence, Liverpool now face a tough test of replicating their clinical finishing and superbly aggressive attacking intensity because Newcastle will be a harder team to break down and beat.
Eddie Howe’s Magpies however seem to be struggling a bit on the road this season performance wise because they were constantly frustrated in attack at Wolves, yet showed great unity and spirit to snatch a draw but their marking at times did nearly prove costly if Wolves had been clinical.
The first goal though will be key because if Liverpool score early, this should be another home win but I can see a tough battle if Newcastle score first at their hoodoo away ground, although Saint-Maximin could well be key for the visitors if he is at his best.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Newcastle
Result: Liverpool 2-1 Newcastle
