2022-23 Premier League: Week Four – Brighton vs Leeds

Brighton & Hove Albion welcome Leeds United to AMEX Stadium in a tasty Premier League encounter.

With both teams locked on seven points apiece in fifth and third positions respectively based on goal difference, victory could see either team go top for at least a few hours if Manchester City lose elsewhere.

Brighton have no fresh injury concerns to report following their midweek Carabao Cup victory at Forest Green.

Robert Sanchez, Lewis Dunk, Alexis Mac Allister, Leandro Trossard and Danny Welbeck feature amongst 11 players looking for a recall, after manager – Graham Potter made wholesale changes to his starting eleven in midweek

Jakub Moder and Jeremy Sarmiento remains absent with knee injuries.

Leeds could welcome Patrick Bamford back from an adductor injury.

Robin Koch, Tyler Adams, Jack Harrison and Rodrigo are amongst several players looking for a recall after being either omitted or benched in Leeds’ midweek Carabao Cup victory against Barnsley.

Junior Firpo, Luke Ayling (both knee) and Stuart Dallas (thigh) remain ruled out.

Stat Attack

  • Brighton are unbeaten in four Premier League meetings against Leeds (W2, D2).
  • Leeds are winless in two previous Premier League visits to Brighton (D1, L1).
  • Brighton are yet to concede at home to Leeds in the Premier League.
  • Pascal Groβ has been involved in three of Brighton’s four league goals this season, having scored two goals and provided one assist.
  • Two of Rodrigo’s four league goals for Leeds this season have been scored from headers, whilst he has also scored on both his right and left foot.

Prediction

Despite not playing their best football at West Ham last weekend, Brighton were otherwise solid and clinical which proved crucial to their win, in which they looked well organised in both defence and attack with great pace and movement to force mistakes from the Hammers.

Leeds likewise weren’t at their best as they clinically beat Chelsea with an excellent high press which paid off, although defence were lucky to keep a clean sheet due to their struggles with the Blues’ intensity but Illan Meslier was their hero in goal with cracking saves.

On that note, it is tricky to predict what we can expect from both teams and tactics could well play a part but I am going to go for a score draw, as it’s difficult to split these two teams based on form and quality so far this season.

Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Leeds

Result: Brighton 1-0 Leeds
