Manchester City have drawn last season’s runners-up Chelsea in the stand-out tie of a tasty Third Round draw in 2022-23 Carabao Cup.
Man City who have won four of the last five editions of this competition will host Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium in a blockbuster clash, as Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea look to avoid an early exit after having lost to Liverpool on penalties in last season’s Final.
That tie also headlines a draw dominated by seven all Premier League ties in total, which also include;
- Arsenal v Brighton
- Bournemouth v Everton
- Manchester United v Aston Villa
- Newcastle United v Crystal Palace
- Nottingham Forest v Tottenham Hotspur
- Wolves v Leeds United
In other ties, Liverpool will commence their title defence at home as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds welcome League One’s Derby County to Anfield.
Leicester will host League Two’s Newport County after having scraped past Stockport County on penalties in the Second Round, following a goalless draw at Edgeley Park.
West Ham again are entering at this stage after having qualified for Europe at end of last season, with David Moyes’ Hammers handed a home tie against Blackburn Rovers who came from behind to beat 2012-13 runners-up Bradford City.
Crawley’s reward for stunning Fulham 2-0 at home in the Second Round is an away trip to face Burnley at Turf Moor.
Gillingham scraped past Exeter on penalties after a goalless draw and have been rewarded with an away trip to Brentford.
Third Round ties will be played across 8-9 November instead of its traditional late September slot due to scheduling changes across multiple competitions, caused by the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place across late November – December in Qatar.
