Striker, Danny Welbeck has signed a new two-year contract at Brighton & Hove Albion until June 2024.
Welbeck arrived at Brighton in October 2020 on a free transfer following his departure from Watford and has gone on to score 12 goals in 53 appearances, as he helped the Seagulls to their best-ever top-flight finish last season of ninth-place in which he scored six goals across the campaign.
Brighton’s Head Coach, Graham Potter is delighted to tie Welbeck down to a new contract following two successful seasons for the 31 year-old, as he said: “Danny has been brilliant for us from the moment he arrived. He became a part of the group quickly and has become a real leader.
“He uses his experience to help the group and is a great role model for the younger players.”
Reflecting on Welbeck’s on-pitch impact at the club, Potter added: “On the pitch he has been really important for us, he gives so much to the team and I am looking forward to continuing working with Danny in the coming seasons.”
Welbeck began his career at Manchester United where he scored 29 goals in 142 appearances amidst loan spells at Preston and Sunderland between 2009-11 seasons, during which he helped Utd to two League Cup and Community Shield titles plus one Premier League and FIFA Club World Cup honour apiece.
Utd then sold Welbeck to Arsenal in September 2014 where he went on to score 32 goals in 126 appearances, whilst he also helped the Gunners win 2016-17 FA Cup and 2017 Community Shield before he was released at end of 2018-19 season.
Welbeck also represented England in which he earned 42 international caps and scored 16 goals between 2011-18, with his last international goal coming in a 2-0 friendly win over Costa Rica at Elland Road, Leeds ahead of 2018 FIFA World Cup where the Three Lions finished fourth.
