Chelsea Sign Cesare Casadei From Inter Milan In £16.8m Deal

Chelsea have signed 19 year-old midfielder, Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan in a £16.8m transfer deal.

Casadei began his career at Cervia within his home region of Emilia-Romagna before spending time at Cesena and eventually Inter Milan in 2018, where he has graduated through their youth ranks – including having played for their Under-19 squad at the age of 16 years-old.

Chelsea will pay an initial transfer fee of £12.6m plus £4.2m in add-ons, taking the overall fee to £16.8m with the Italian signing a six-year contract until June 2028 and immediately joining their youth academy at Under-21 level.

Chelsea’s Head of Youth Development, Neil Bath commented on Casadei’s arrival as he confirmed that the club had monitored his progress in recent months and is “delighted” to place him in their U21s squad.

On expectations of Casadei this season, Bath said: “He is another exciting emerging talent who we are looking forward to seeing develop and progress further as he breaks into senior football in the coming years.”

Inter Milan meanwhile issued the following statement on Casadei’s departure: “FC Internazionale Milano can announce that Cesare Casadei has joined Chelsea Football Club.

“The 19-year-old central midfielder has signed a permanent deal with the English side.”

Casadei plays internationally for Italy at youth level, in which he has already scored seven goals in 21 appearances across U16, 17, 18 & 19 levels.
