Jaden Philogene-Bidace has signed a contract extension at Aston Villa and joined Cardiff City on a season-long loan.

Philogene-Bidace has produced five appearances in total across the last two seasons at Villa following his debut in a 2-1 away win at Tottenham Hotspur in May 2021, just two months after he had signed a three-year contract until June 2024.

The 20 year-old winger then spent the second half of last season on loan at Stoke City, during which he scored once in 11 appearances.

Philogene-Bidace has recently been part of Villa’s pre-season tour of Australia but will now head out on a season-long loan to Cardiff City for the 2022-23 season, following discussions between both clubs and his agent.

Explaining exactly how his loan move came around, Philogene-Bidace said: “I was on pre-season tour with Aston Villa and I got a call from my agent, who said that a few Championship clubs wanted me on loan.

“I heard Cardiff City were the club that really wanted me to come, and that’s why I came here. It’s a Club with a big stadium, over 30,000, and I can’t wait to get started.”

On what he wants to achieve in Cardiff, Philogene-Bidace added: “I want to score goals and help my teammates. I can’t wait to show the fans, my family and everyone else what I can do.”

Cardiff manager, Steve Morison added that he is “really happy” to sign Philogene-Bidace on loan after failing to secure the winger in January.

Morison proceeded to add that the club had “monitored” Philogene-Bidace at Stoke and made a move once he became available this summer, as he iterated that if Philogene-Bidace is part of Villa’s plans then he is ideal for the Bluebirds this season.

“Villa want to keep him on because they like him, so if he’s good enough for them, he’s good enough for us. It’s great for our depth, and great for competition.” commented Morison on Philogene-Bidace’s status at Villa.

Philogene-Bidace could make his debut for Cardiff at home to Norwich in their 2022-23 Sky Bet Championship opener on Saturday 30 July, in an untelevised 3pm BST kick-off.
